The Beauchamp Duck Woods is one of the most historic and meaningful recreational properties our team has ever had the opportunity to develop.
The property’s story is closely tied to Art Beauchamp, a world champion duck caller and accomplished duck call maker with a deep passion for hunting the flooded timber of Arkansas. Although his life eventually took him to Michigan where he raised his family and continued his call business, Art returned home to Prairie County each winter to enjoy the sport and landscape he loved.
Art was also a pioneer in the early development of Green Tree Reservoirs. Using the equipment and resources available during his time, he constructed levees and developed systems to siphon water into the timber. His work helped shape the property into a flooded timber hunting destination long before modern development methods became common.
After Art passed away, the gate was locked and the property remained largely dormant for the next 30 to 40 years. The woods became overgrown, infrastructure deteriorated, and many of the improvements he had created were slowly reclaimed by nature. Still, the history, character, and potential of the property remained.
From the moment we first stepped onto Beauchamp Duck Woods, we were in awe of what was there. Historic relics could still be found throughout the property, and the massive cypress trees standing in the woods had been there far longer than any of us. More importantly, the framework of Art’s original vision could still be seen.
Using the plans he laid decades earlier as our guide, we worked to bring the property back to life. We reopened timber holes, restored and expanded infrastructure, rebuilt blinds in their original locations, created food plots, and developed secure rest areas for waterfowl.
The results were extraordinary. As the habitat recovered and the property became functional again, Beauchamp Duck Woods produced some of the finest waterfowl and whitetail hunting our team has ever experienced.
Watching this historic property come back to life was one of the most rewarding opportunities we have ever had. Beauchamp Duck Woods will forever stand as one of the most impactful projects in the history of our company and a lasting tribute to Art Beauchamp’s vision, ingenuity, and love for Arkansas flooded timber.
